NOT NOT, Chicago, Illinois
April 19, 2026

figment/being is an exhibition of drawings and paintings by Chicago-based artists Araceli Zuniga and Jeewon Han. It explores the interplay of emotion and identity through depictions of the figure. The artists incorporate cultural symbolism to illuminate the tension between imagined and material selfhood.

Using the languages of still life and landscape painting, Han flattens planes and contorts space, contemplating loss through distorted memories of phantom figures and objects. Zuniga’s drawings are collage-like compositions of figures in the midst of transformation. They depict a snapshot within a transfiguration of the self and other, a moment between intimacy and exteriority, play and contemplation.

Han and Zuniga’s works narrate personal fictions through layers of thoughts and images. They describe an alternate state of being that is simultaneously present and unreachable.
